Please feel free to stop by our table at the Market or visit our website for more information on the wool products we carry – from delightfully cosy 100% wool blankets, to hot water bottle cozys, to soap in a coat – I’m sure we have a little something for everyone.
Brook Ridge Farm was established in 1995 when we purchased this property just west of the town of Antigonish, in North Eastern Nova Scotia. The rambling 200 acre tract of land is home to our Border Leicester purebred sheep, along with the commercial crossbred ewes and select purebred rams we employ in our breeding program.
Our farm family consists of not only of the sheep but horses, donkeys, goats, cats, rabbits and a dog. Although we love to call them our own, the deer who frequent the fields are transient visitors. The resident ravens, red tailed hawk and curious fox add to the color and sound of our little hamlet!
We breed, sell and show Border Leicester purebred stock and you will see some of the quality animals we have raised within the confines of this site. Should you be interested in starting your own flock, complimenting the breed you currently have or adding maternal power to your commercial line please feel free to contact us.

Starting as blueberry producers, in 1994 we branched out to become beekeepers. Over the years our beehives have been used to pollinate not only our own blueberry fields in the Denver, Guysborough County area, but fields throughout Eastern Mainland Nova Scotia. When the pollinating season is over, the bees are free to roam and gather nectar and pollen from the wildflowers in and around their apiaries. These nectar sources make a mild and tasty honey.
Our honey is pure, unfiltered and unpasteurized, all done the old fashioned way, slowly and lovingly. We also use organic methods to control pests and diseases whenever possible. With time and experience we have greatly expanded the line of products we produce from our own honey to include jams, jellies, creamed and liquid honey, delicious honey cranberry chutney, and even honey butters.
During the fall months, gift boxes, filled with jams and jellies, are available for the gift-giving season. Anyone would be delighted to get a ” Sweet of You to try Us” product. The fall is also the time of year when beeswax cappings (that thin layer of beeswax covering the ripened honey) is carefully harvested, melted, cleaned and made into a variety of all natural beeswax candles for your enjoyment.
Products may be ordered directly – give us a call. Other locations for our products are listed on our website, www.cornectfamilyfarm.com.

Brian Ives & Elizabeth Ormond

Heatherton, NS, B0H 1R0
Telephone: (902) 386-2474
Dear friends,
Farmasea is a family business founded on appropriate technology principles and a commitment to organic methods. Wildcrafting of plants and gathering stormcast seaweeds is done in a manner that respects sound stewardship and harvesting practices. Processing includes passive solar drying and/or infusion with certified organic carrier oils. We harvest crops only when the highest content of active ingredients may be expected. As members of the American Botanical Council, we do our best to stay current with the monographs as it relates to peer-reviewed methods. Throughtout our travels in the Americas, Asia and County Donegal, Ireland, we have been taken by the dedicated simplicity of health practitioners working in their communities.
Herbs have been used as health aids throughout recorded history. The basic recipe(s) for creams and salves date back to the Greek physician Galen in the second century. Indeed, until mass-produced cosmetics became widespread in the 20th century, most products were concocted at home from herbs and other natural ingredients. We have attempted to reflect these ancient traditions.
We have made every effort to ensure that the ingredients we have used in these products are from natural sources and where possible, from our organic homestead.
Seaweeds and unicellular algae are used because they are one of nature’s purifiers and draw out impurities from the skin. Removing dead cells from one’s skin cleanses and refreshes, enhancing cellular renewal. This toning effect boosts circulation. Rich in amino acids, vitamins and minerals these aquatic nutrients nurture the body as it is enveloped in this uniquely soothing formula.
Some of the applications where our salves and liniments have helped include an after shave gel, minor skin dis-orders, foot massage/reflexology and strained deep tissue and muscles.
These products have been hand crafted and packaged with care and a modest understanding of what it may take to help rejuvenate one’s skin. Please take the time to drop us a note and comment on our products.
Store in a dark, cool place to ensure maximum shelflife .There is a small chance that a particular herb may cause an allergic reaction for some, so it is best that you “try a dab” on the inside of the forearm.

Nancy carries a large array of hand painted, drift wood signs in a variety of local themes. Expressing different local themes, these tastefully decorated, weathered wood signs, wall plaques, and decorative items make the perfect souvenir for someone just visiting Eastern Nova Scotia or a lovely addition to a local kitchen or garden.
An accomplished basket weaver, Nancy also repairs woven chair backings and seats, makes baskets in a variety of styles and sizes, and somehow manages to make it all look easy.
If you stop by early enough at the Market (before they’re all gone) you can also find a variety of cakes and other baked goods. All of which taste great with a dollop of the jams and jellies you’ll find every there every week!

I don’t use a pattern or even draw on the wood. I just pick up a piece of wood and start cutting. Each piece is unique, not exactly the same as any other. Many of them use the natural shape of the wood, I like to show the beauty that is naturally in the wood as well as what I might shape it into. Most of the time my business consists of only myself and my tools. Occasionally I get a friend or relative to do some work for me.
My products can be purchased directly from me on Saturday mornings at the Farmers’ Market, either to people who come to my house or by mail. It is much easier for me to sell through the markets, craft fairs and some galleries and shops.
I took part in the holiday market of the Dartmouth Handcrafters’ Guild last fall, and the Marconi Campus fair and Christmas at Victoria Park Craft Show, and my product did really well. I have some things in the Inverness County Centre for the Arts, Sunset Gallery (in Cheticamp), The Craft Gallery (in Sackville, NB), and sometimes in a few other places. I also have some in the Cape Breton Centre for Crafts and Design gallery, though they are changing their rules and raising their fees and I’m not sure at this point what I am going to decide. Directions to my place are too complicated and long to put here. If people want to come, they can e-mail or call. When I am not at my craft I spend time in my garden, when it yields a good crop, I end up selling it at the farmers’ market.
